These Winter Olympics have been awesome. There have been a lot of very good moments and the US is faring quite well. Great Hockey game last night. Also a great feature on the 1980 team. It was 30 years ago today that the Miracle happened. In my opinion the greatest sports moment in US history.

Don't forget though, the USA/USSR game wasn't even the gold medal game. The US still had to play another game after that to win the gold (Sweden, maybe?)...

I'm sure some of the hype has to do with the fact that she's real pretty. I also think your expectations became unrealistically high when you saw her launch herself into outerspace with a snowboard. I don't think that was real, though.

That's actually a trick Shaun White is working on. And I fully expect him to be able to do it.

OTOH, Canada smoked the US women in Curling. Time to bench McCormick, I think. Canada's skip, Cheryl Bernard, is another hot Woman of Curling:

USA vs Canada for the gold of Thursday...............in womens hockey

This should be an exciting game to watch. It will be as big as a mens final of US v Canada

These two teams have outscored their opponents 86-4 over 8 games.

A couple of other notes: Canada is switching goalies, dumping Martin Brodeur in favor of Roberto Luongo. Canada has also conceded that it will not "Own the Podium" as it claimed it would. And the US Curling team sucks.

The US Curling team is about as relevant as JD Drew's OBP.

Too bad that losing your atv on a frozen pond isn't an Olympic event.

Been watching the qualifying for women's ski cross this afternoon. Each skier goes through the course solo and they're take the top 32 times to create 8 heats of four skiers and go bracket-style to a final. Even by themselves on the course, there's plenty of trouble for the skiers to get into. Odd bumps and jumps that the announcers were saying were hard to judge while on the course, so it's easy to be caught off-balance.

Case in point was the final women to ski. She was doing well until the final jump before the finish line. She landed awkwardly and tumbled over the line to finish in 33rd position, just missing the cut. She was signaling for help as she lay on the snow, but they cut away to a commercial and now an interview with Peggy Fleming and Dorothy Hamill, so no idea if she's ok. Since she's not American, I'm not holding my breathe for an update. Might have to do some checking online.

Can't wait to watch the women do that with three other skiers on the course with them. It should be brutal.

The men's ski cross heats were rather uneventful, at least in terms of semifinals and finals. No wipeouts of any kind. The snowboard cross had much more carnage.

USA Hockey with a 2-0 win over Switzerland yesterday, advancing to the Semifinals against Finland, who topped the Czechs, 2-0. Canada also advanced, pounding the Russians 7-3, and will face Slovakia, who up-ended the defending gold medalists, Sweden, 4-3.

The Semifinals will be on Friday:

3 pm USA v Finland

9:30 pm Canada v Slovakia

USA/Canada, the rematch?

Quite possible, which would be kinda scary, but awesome at the same time. The only bad thing for me is, I work when the gold medal game would be.

Also, Team USA plays in the semifinal today at 3 pm against Finland, and Canada and Slovakia play tonight at 9:30. Winners meet Sunday for the gold, losers meet tomorrow for the bronze.

Speaking of hockey, maybe next time the women's tourney could be a best-of-five or best-of-seven between Canada and USA. That was the only game worth watching.

Not really, no.

I was captivated by the Alpine/slush/fog/blue food coloring event.

That was a good one, because it gave NBC and others a chance to dig deeper into the Vonn/Mancuso rivalry.
