First positive test for HGH

A rugby player is news because it's the first time anyone has been caught by a test for HGH. It's a blood test, which is a sticking point with all the player unions, at least to my knowledge. But it might just eliminate one hurdle for getting HGH testing into place, because it's an actual test that works. The unions can't play that card anymore.

Bud Selig's already talking about plans to implement HGH testing at the minor league level. Should be only a matter of time before the MLBPA will have to cave.

Well, they can still play that card, because one positive doesn't prove it's an effective test. They've already released a statement to that effect.

There's also the question of how performance enhancing HGH really is.

No doubt, this positive test is something that the commisioner's office has been waiting for so they could leap into action. But I think the MLBPA is going to fight this one a bit longer.

Oh, no doubt they'll fight. It took them how long to agree to allowing steroid testing in the first place, let alone a test policy with some substantiate repercussions? I fully expect the fight on HGH to go on for a few years. Until it's a foolproof test (or as close as scientists can get), they won't agree to anything.
