Jason Whitlock gives his take, which frankly is awful: http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/lists/top- ... o=10893503

Tarkenton is on that list because he took the Vikings to four Super Bowls, and he lost all four. In that same era Bradshaw won four, but he's not on the list. Brilliant!

Whitlock is a pot stirrer. It isn't his job to be credible even though it should be. Nothing he writes holds water.

All Bradshaw did was heave the ball downfield and wait for Swann and Stallworth to run it down. I wouldn't put him in the top 10. But probably not Tarkenton, either.

I don't think Whitlock is too far off. I think he's got Steve Young a little too high because I think he, along with Staubach and Tarkenton, are the only debatable inclusions in the list. I guess we could quibble about ranking order, but Elway, Montana, Unitas, Brady, Manning, Marino, and <shudder> Favre are unquestionable.
After those seven, I think Young, Staubach, and Tarkenton can be lumped in with Bradshaw, Starr, Moon, Aikman, Kelly, Warner as the next tier. Any of whom can be argued into a "top 10", but I don't believe can be argued past those first seven.

I think it's funny that if Manning didn't throw that pick and the Colts wind up winning the game, Whitlock might've made him number one, but instead he drops to number eight. Okayyyyyy.....
And Brady as # 6? Really? And Elway ahead of Montana?

Elway #1 and how is Steve Young ranked that high?

And Brady as # 6? Really? And Elway ahead of Montana? This is why Bradshaw deserves way more respect. Sure, his numbers aren't great. But he made it through four Super Bowl runs without doing something to lose a game. He beat Tarkenton once, and Staubach twice. And he won two Super Bowl MVPs.

Bradshaw played with a team full of HOFers. Albeit, he also played in an era where QBs were human tackling dummies. But 4 Superbowls makes him unquestionably one of the best of all time.
Montana has a similar story. Sort of a revolutionary coach, with a great QB and a ton of talent. A lot of people don't realize just how good those 49er defenses were.
Tarkenton, not top 10, probably 11. Staubach, top 10, barely.
IMO, it goes like this: Montana, Marino, Elway, Brady, Unitas, Manning, Bradshaw, Favre, Graham, Staubach, Tarkenton, etc.
