... NBC get those really cool shots of the turf's reaction to players? I noticed in the game last night that the turf appeared to be blue when a player ran or fell.

I don't think that was NBC. I think it was the turf.

Unlike Astroturf, field turf has moving parts. It's got little rubber bits called infill that act kinda like dirt on a natural field, and when the turf is disturbed, those little rubber bits are churned up. I think that's what you were seeing as "blue" when players hit the turf.
