Wow, I didn't think they'd be able to afford him. That's definitely good news, especially since he (hopefully) won't have to start.

The Celts are looking good and the preseason. The best thing is KGs knee looks pretty darn good.

So the Celts give Big Baby a nice contract and how does he reward them, by severly injuring his thumb in a bar fight. Sounds like he out awhile.

There should be "Stupidity Clauses" in every player's contract. Like, do something stupid like getting into a fight at a bar or strip club, you don't get paid for the time you miss.

My bet is there is something in his contract that prohibits them from having to pay him for an injury like this. At the very least there will be some sort of team disciplinary action that will result in some sort of fine.

I was in the crowd scenes in "Fish that Saved Pittsburgh". They filmed it at the Civic Arena and I went with a buddy. And of course my high school hoops career served as the inspiration for "Teen Wolf".

I listened to the first half on the radio and thought the Celtics were in good shape. But I didn't think they would win by 30+. Wow. Good to see Sheldon Williams have a good game.

I think the addition of Shaq was a bad move for the Cavs.

1) He can't be effective for more than half the game, so you get 1/2 a player for one whole roster spot. And how effective can he be even during that time?

2) He's slow enough so that you can put smaller and more athletic guys on him, like Perk, and not have to double team him, and be able to pick and roll him easily on the offensive end. Early in his career you couldn't do that, which is why he was so hard to defend.

3) My guess is that Shaq is going to be playing mostly in the paint. That's where Lebron gets a lot of fouls and causes a lot of havoc. So, either Lebron is going to be outside more, or shaq is going to be playing outside more. Either way, that's bad for the cavs.

4) He's going to be a problem for the cavs late in the game. His role will be stopper/rebounder. Both will draw fouls, and as we all know, he can't shoot free throws. That's a bad person to have to rely on if it's a close game.

5) I just don't think he cares anymore. And if he does, he's going to try and bump egos with Lebron. Again, a no-win situation for the Cavs.

I honestly don't see one positive that is going to come from the marriage of Shaq and Cleveland.

Haven't there already been reports that Shaq admits to not knowing all the offensive plays the Cavs run? He's been with them, what, four months now? So if that's the case, why isn't Ilgauskas starting over him and getting more minutes until Shaq "gets it"?

I agree with you MIT, and I thought the same when the trade was made. I don't see how Shaq is the "missing piece" that will put the LeBrons over the top and get them a title.

Let's see you learn all the plays when you're out shooting RedHawk Vs!

Just more distractions for a guy who shouldn't be a starter on a team contending for a title. He should be like a backup center for a team like the Clippers.

Shaq applies to be Ohio deputy sheriff

The little eyeroll emoticon just doesn't do this justice.

The Shaq move to Cleveland is the most over-hyped NBA story of the year. As MIT pointed out he's done, and I can't see him being healthy enough to make any kind of difference in the post season.

He's too big to play the kind of role that Kareem did in his later years.

Now its time to go out drinking with Big Baby!

Let's hope he lives up to it. That's more than Steve Nash (according to the article), and that's a lot of expectations to put on such a young player who, given how he plays, may not have a whole lot of longevity.

Of course, I think they risk more not having him signed long term. It will be interesting to see what direction this team goes as the new 'big 3' age and move on/retire over the next three years.

Yeah my guess is Danny does have a plan. With Allen becoming free after this season I am curious to see what they do with that money. There is a very talenet pool of FAs coming including Lebron (who I am convinced stays in Cleveland) coming available. I would like to see Bosch in their mix.

LeBron has an option for 2010-11, right? If that's the case, I don't know why he would stick around in Cleveland when they've made it very clear they will consistently surround him with second rate talent every season.

He'd be better off in a bigger market. Like LA, NY or Boston. And NY has a ton of cap space next season (I think).

Ainge may have a plan, but he'll have three big holes to fill over the next three off seasons. Maybe two next year if Pierce opts out. Though I don't know why he would, he's making a crap load and probably wouldn't get that in FA. Maybe they can extend Pierce, and free up space to make a run at LeBron...
