Wow. I hope that's untrue...

Can they do that if he's a free agent? All I've heard is how the B's might have to choose between Kessel and Krejci because of the cap, so my assumption was that Kessel isn't under contract anymore. Or is Kessel a restricted free agent that would require Colorado to negotiate compensation along the lines of the #3 pick?

Kessel is a restricted free agent so the Bruins could do a sign and trade with Colorado if they agree on compensation. The Bruins only had about $10M to use under the cap and Krejci just took a little over $3 of that. I'd imagine Kessel is going to command at least $4M a year so it doesn't look good for him remaining a Bruin. The only hope is if the Bruins can unload someone like Marco Sturm. BTW, I heard the Colorado rumor as well.

Aaron Ward traded in a salary dump, and PJ Axellson to Sweden. I hope this team isn't in the process of being blown up, I hope this is just them trying to make room for offers to their star players...

Ward isn't exactly young, and if the deal is trade Ward to sign Kessel, then that's a no brainer. And I hope that is the plan.

That is the reasoning I am hearing as well.
