You are right about the baiting. [He Who Shall Not Be Named #1] is the chief of baiting. I guess you could call him the master baiter.

I am not speaking for Frank, I simply asked the question. The problem is everything that is said on this site by anyone who posts here represents Frank's last name whether you like it or not, because Frank's last name is in the URL. Period. You cannot argue with that.
If I spent the rest of my life arguing with people who have said derogatory things about me, my profession, family or anything else I wouldn't have a voice. It's all words, no matter what is said. That's it.
I am done here. Between petty snide remarks from someone who has a Sea Dogs blog (which by the way fantastic coverage of Portland this season. 4 posts and a blurry picture that may or may not be Kyle Drabek. You have the sack to tell me what I am doing is done from a basement? Really?) If you need me, knock on my door, mom will point you to the basement. I'll be singing radio karaoke. There are many of you I will miss (TFG+R, Calnan, Large Farva, SteelerFan, Parrothead you guys know where to get ahold of me if need be. I am sure there are others and if I missed your name I am truly sorry). Others, well, not so much. Have fun dragging yourselves to levels you think you are above, when in reality, you do the exact same thing, only flowered up.

i realize that ultimately your trying to be a peacemaker to some extent matty, but no, i doubt very much that if someone who holds you in contempt for whatever reason repeatedly made comments about your wife on the internet you'd just bite your tongue. i know meyanks wife better than i know him and i am incredibly offended every time she gets brought into it. listen, the reason why anyone is fighting with those two morons is because the two morons have always wanted to fight with us and it appears they created that blog just to have the opportunity to fight with us again, since they can't come here. it is certainly not for their sports insight or their spelling for that matter. i realize its all touchy for you because we all can't stand your "business partner" and for whatever reason he decided to blog at their trainwreck of a site. maybe that was because he knew his words would get read by us there, whereas i don't know if any of us venture over to the cmsb. roaddie, rh, jalbs, calnan and might go around a bit here, but in the end we all know what side we are on. for the most part, we started posting online together way back in 2003 and we're still at it. you want to take your ball and go home, i don't think its really going to impact us much at all...

Cry me an effing river Matty. So you're going to compare a sports forum to someone being killed by a clown??? What the [bleep] are you smoking? What we say here is just a bunch of guys discussing whatever. What Jeff says as JeffCMSB on a highly offensive blog site reflects on more than just him. I have been nothing but respectful to you and always wished YOU well. It's your bottom feeder partner who I have no use for. Post here or don't post here...whatever.

You may (or may not) have noticed that I don't actually advertise my blog in any fashion, because I know that there's not likely to be any fresh material there. That said, I defy you to find where I said that you do what you do from a basement. That just not a term that I use. And, rest assured, any "petty snide remarks" are directed at your partner, not you. (In fact, I remember saying at one time, before the Vortex got going, that I thought you would do a good job if you had a seat in the studio.) And I wouldn't have done so with Jeff if he hadn't been so belligerent, snide and demeaning about bloggers moments before he joined your blog, and if he hadn't been belligerent, snide and demeaning about Facebook moments before he joined Facebook, etc. etc. etc. Didn't mean to drag you down. I guess the old adage holds true here: if you associate with douchebags, you risk being associated with douchebags.

Nice try on the idiots blog. But you know they are just baiting you. And me. And RH. Well, honestly, they are baiting anyone willing to look it seems. Especially if you are a minority, reletively educated, somewhat offendable, or human.

Posted to make things easier:
VOREBREMETRICS - Point - On Offense I think it is time to get a few things straight and get serious. I'm calling out all the Stat GEEKS.
RoadDoofus and RedHawkBasementDweller have lied to all of you. And MITIdiot is just another Sally Struthers MBA DOPE. They don't watch baseball, they go to the sports page and look at the box scores. All these CLOSET BASEMENT DWELLERS care about are the 'numbers'. Well, I'm sorry. Numbers don't win baseball games! When was the last time an OPS meant more than an RBI? NEVER! Yet these DOPES would have you think RBIs ARE MEANINGLESS! SCORING RUNS IS MEANINGLESS? How about THAT nonsense!?!? I think these three SAPs should stick to what they know, Acne Cream, Comic Books and Fantasy Fiction!
[He Who Shall Not Be Named #1], Jeff and I have been watching baseball for decades. Longer than many of the SAPs and longer than Bill "Baseball God" James. And I want to say I know a thing or two about the sport. I've read Bill James book recently and I have to say I think most of it is utter TRASH. The nonsense this man comes up with is astounding. Some of it has merit, but it is quite clear he lives in his parents BASEMENT and likes to play FANTASY sports and probably has his little friends come over to play with his Babe Ruth action figures!
I'm going to educate you all now, and I'm going to have my CounterPointer in Crime, [He Who Shall Not Be Named #1], comment. I'm sure we can have a GREAT debate about the FINER points of baseball the SAPs and BASEMENT DWELLER Bill James don't want to tell you!
It's simple. You don't need a calculator or a computer. Or a highschool LOSER like RedHawkBallHandler to help you understand what is important in baseball.
Baseball is about SCORING RUNS. It is the MOST IMPORTANT aspect of baseball. And it is why the teams that score the most runs over the course of a season are the teams that are going to be playing in October. That means RBIs. And more RBIs mean more WINS. Unfortunately that's true, because it means the TRAITOR YANKEES will usually be playing in October thanks to their payroll. But it is TRUE.
Oh, I'm sure RoadChicken will chime in at some point and say OPS is important. And I'm sure he'll talk about WARP and how he likes to play with his Star Trek action figures.
Plain and simple: OPS is useless. It's a fictional made up stat that you have to use a calculator to even comprehend. Last I checked baseball was played ON THE FIELD not in a COMPUTER! You can SEE a HIT. You can SEE RBIs. You can't SEE OPS. It's fiction!
Back before baseball was watched and not entered into a computer for calculations we had something called the TRIPLE CROWN. Batting Average, Home Runs and RBIs. The three MOST important stats in baseball. Not OSP or SLG or WARP-SPEED-NERD-AVERAGE.
Batting Average is important because it measures how productive a hitter is. And I'm sure the SAPs will disagree, but a .300 hitter is going to be more productive than a .250 hitter no matter how many walks they have. That .250 hitter is striking out a TON, and the worst out you can make is a STRIKE OUT. I'd rather have 0 walks and 0 strikeouts than 100 walks and 100 strikeouts. Especially if it means I have a .300 hitter as opposed to a .200 hitter. It's a well known fact your best hitters hit for AVERAGE. Not WALK for average.
We put too much emphisis on how great WALKS are. Walks are basically useless. If you aren't hitting the ball you aren't doing your job. We call them HITTERS because we want them to HIT. Otherwise we'd call them WALKERS! All a walk does is put one guy on base and only advances the runner if he's forced over. A hit ball, even if it's a deep out can advance all the runners at least one base. And maybe even will score a run. I'd rather have someone who can hit with the bases loaded than NANCY DREW who sits there and watches THIRD STRIKES fly by.
Hits are MORE IMPORTANT than walks! That's why BATTING AVERAGE is a better measure than OBP. Walks are a lazy mans way of getting on base even though you are a crappy hitter. Just look at NANCY DREW! Strike outs used to be an embarassment. Now we let any FOOL swing a bat (or not!) and credit them for not being able to hit. That's the WUSSIFICATION OF AMERICA! Only little SALLY GIRLS get on base with WALKS.
And what about SLUGGING? Again, USELESS! If I want to see how powerful a hitter someone is I use HR totals, not SLG or whatever it is. Slugging measures total bases. So what? It doesn't factor in stolen bases. So how can it measure TOTAL BASES? It can't! It's a FARCE just like OBP! Just look at our boy Jake! Every single is basically a double because he steals so many bases. A double is almost as good as a triple! But SLG doesn't take that into consideration! And what's worse, if you get thrown out at third you get credit for 2 bases! If you hit a double and STEAL third you get credit for only 2 bases! Now which player was more productive?
In fact, our BASEMENT DWELLER Bill James thinks stolen bases are BAD! WHAT???? Tell that to Ricky Henderson! What a LOSER! He's just upset because he's a FAT TURD who never played BASEBALL in his LIFE! I'll bet he wants to think stolen bases are USELESS! If I were RedSQUAWKER or RoadNERD or MITBASEMENTDWELLER I'd want to think being fast and athletic is bad too! And I bet my CounterPointer in Crime, [He Who Shall Not Be Named #1], can tell you. He's actually PLAYED the game. How about it, [He Who Shall Not Be Named #1]? Being a big fat slob would help you be a better player right?!?!?
OPS is basically a mishmash of two useless stats invented to make FAT TURDS look like better players than they really are. NANCY DREW is terrible, but he has a high OPS so I guess he's great? BALONEY! One look at how he plays the game tells you that's not true. You can tell he's too much of a P***Y to swing the bat! I bet Ted Williams would be ASHAMED to have someone stand at the plate and not even TRY.
Nobody uses their eyes anymore. We realy on made up baseball fiction, like OPS. We let players get away with striking out 150 times a year as long as they walk 80 times! We think a player is a 'good player' if he hits .250 but has a OPB of .350! We think a guy who has a high SLG is better than a guy who hits .300 and steals 70 bases! OPS is USELESS! You calculate it by adding GARBAGE to GARBAGE! Last time I checked, GARBAGE + GARBAGE = EXTRA GARBAGE!
I'm sure the SAPs will only post GARBAGE in response. They have NO response! They can't argue the FACTS! The Proof is in the Pudding once again!
I await my INTELLIGENT and KNOWLEDGIBLE Co-Blogger's response! And if anyone else would like to add some opinions. REAL FACTUAL OPINIONS! Not the FART BOY opinions that are just ATTACKS! Feel free to let us know. We are getting so big we may have to hire more Bloggers!

And the counter-point (If it is a counter-point shouldn't they disagree?):
VOREBREMETRICS - CounterPoint - On Offense I want to thank [He Who Shall Not Be Named #2] for his well thought out contribution on why OPS is a joke. The boys won’t like that. lol. Of course I need to add my Voice of Reason to this. Some stats are worth using so I won’t dismis them all but some are for dummies. The boys liked to use one called VORP. Can any of the boys explain in plain englush what that is? I think it is a made up stat by someone who has nothnig better to do. Does it make a player better because he has a good VORP? Do agents psuh their players accordign to VORP? Only dummies would fall for that one. How long did it take for a stat geek to make that one up? Just because the boys say it doesn’t make it true.
I have something that deosn’t fail ever. You can use it and you never have to worry if it’s fake made up stat by someone who just wants to play with numbers. You can’t wait fir me to tell you right? lol. I call it UYE. Can any of the boys tell me what that is? They can’t because it isn’t a number and it can’t be twisted. It deals with viewed facts not made up stuff that only dummies will use. It is something that has never failed me and it why I can evaualte any player. Are you ready? lol. I call it Using Your Eyes. Pretty simple. Thats why they call me the Voice of Reason. You can all thank me later. Only the boys will argue with that. If you can’t use your eyes then how smart are you? Playign with numbers on a comoputer can be done by a blind dummy or a frisbee thrower so how reliable is that? My eyes tell me when a player has lost a step or lost speed in his swing. It tells me if he has balance and if he is keepnig his head on the ball. I played baseball so I know that those things are improtant. Playing the game gives you a better insight unless you are Terry. The boys only play video games so they would have no idea what I am talkign about. lol.
I also decided to work on my own stat since anyone can do it and have it mean somethign. I think total bases are important so I started with that stat. I also think how you make an out is important. Strikeouts are bad no matter how many stat geeks try to say otherwise. There should be penaltuies because nothing good can come from a strikeout. If you strikeout a lot you stink. That’s pretty simple. There should aslo be rewards for putting the ball in play and where it is put in play even if it is an out. Putting a ball in play has a chance for something good to happen. Pretty easy so far right? Since RBIs are the most important stat I use there should be a penalty for runners left on base. Asre the boys following along? lol. So a ground out is worth 1 point a popout is worth 2 points and a flyout is worth 3 points. You should also be rewarded for steals. I’ve alyways believed in running and hitting going together. One of the boys used to be a dope about that. So here is the formula for those that can’t followe along:
Total bases + steals + points for outs divided by strikeouts + runners left on base
If you take Youk from last night and use my forumula he comes out to .666. I already know he is a great player from using my eyes so my new stat backs that up. I am still the straw that stirs the drink. lol. To make it easy for someone like Terry to use I gave it an easy name. I called it DHOPE. That should be easy for Terry to remember. lol. It stands for Determining Hits Outs Player Efficiency. I should be able to write a book now. The boys wanted sports talk and some stuff they could debate so being the Voice of Reason I gave my fans what they wanted. lol. I welcome anyone to dispute what I wrote. Let’s see if the boys have what it takes.

VOREBREMETRICS - Point - On Offense
[He Who Shall Not Be Named #2] – Voice of Experience So what does that say about Wade Boggs, who if I remember right often lead the league in hits AND walks (a good season was 200 hits, 100 walks)? Is he a good hitter because of the average while at the same time a "SALLY GIRL" for the walks?

One thing I know is that grounding into a double play is good, because it erases base runners and leaving guys on base is bad.

One thing I know is that grounding into a double play is good, because it erases base runners and leaving guys on base is bad. I've been scratching my head trying to figure out that "formula": Total bases + steals + points for outs divided by strikeouts + runners left on base Maybe he means (Total bases + steals + points for outs) / (strikeouts + runners LOB)? At least that way it makes more mathematical sense, but it still makes no sense in reality. It doesn't take into account runs scored or runs driven in as far as I can tell. I can "use my eyes" and see how many times someone crosses the plate, why isn't that factored in?

What about vision? I think we should also multiply that by your vision. If you're 20/40 you're screwed.

What do you mean it doesn't make sense? He's giving positive values to outs, which makes sense because good things can happen when you put the ball in play. That's why you get points for a popup - something good might happen there. So good, in fact, that a popup is given two points, just like a double is. Something good can happen when you put the bat on the ball, you see, which is why a popup to short, which has about a one in one hundred thousand chance of not becoming an out, is worth twice as much as a single. Make that a fly ball to the outfield, and you're talking three times the value of a single. Fly ball to the OF could advance a runner, maybe even score a run, so it's worth just as much as a triple. It's obvious.
Just imagine a guy who never strikes out and never leaves a runner on base. That's a denominator of zero, meaning that player is infinitely valuable.
To put this into real-world terms, suppose a guy comes up four times in a game, each time with a runner on first and one out. One of the best things he could do would be to ground into an inning-ending double play each time. The formula would be (0+0+4)/(0+0). Dividing by zero is impossible, giving a result of infinity. So a player who does nothing but ground into inning-ending double plays is infinitely valuable, whereas a guy who always strikes out with men on base has zero value. But you can tell that simply by using your eyes.
