Celtics close to acquiring Nate Robinson

Story says it's likely for Eddie House in a one for one deal. Seems like a moderate upgrade at best, but a needed infusion of offensive energy on the second unit. Robinson can create his own shot a little better than House and is a better ball handler to bring the ball upcourt when Rondo is on the bench. The lone advantage House has over him (other than height) is 3-point shooting, but even that isn't that far apart this year (.383 vs .375).

IMO, this alone isn't enough. They've got to do something big that involves moving Ray Allen. They won't be able to sign any big players on the free agent market no matter what they do, and they don't have attractive enough pieces to pull off a sign and trade either, so the next 24 hours is their time to make the big move for not just now, but for next year as well. They're at best the #4 team in the conference as constituted. That's not likely to change if they hang on to Allen through the deadline. Not this year and not next either.

I've heard rumors they're looking at Monta Ellis...

Another rumor has it House and a first rounder for Robinson, which I really have a hard time believing until I remember Ainge is at the helm.

Last I heard it was a second and House, but that report has been rescinded. Now there's talk that it will be Marquis Daniels rather than House. I can only think that if that's true, there's definitely something else brewing involving Allen. No way would Ainge trade a swing-man type like Daniels for an undersized guard that more or less duplicates Eddie House anyway. On the other hand, it is Danny Ainge we're talking about. It's make or break time for this franchise...a minor move or no move at all definitely breaks things.

So far the Cs have done nothing, while the Cavs seem to have gotten stronger by adding Antawn Jamison and Sebastian Telfair

I wonder if that takes the Cavs out of the running for Stoudemire? Could the Celts be a dark horse for him? An Allen for Stoudemire straight up deal works in terms of salary, but does it do enough to improve the team overall?

The trade deadline is 3 pm today - will the C's make a big splash?

Two hours left, still no deal for Ray Allen.

Supposedly the House for Robinson deal is all but done:

Too much to hope the second player coming to Boston is David Lee?

Yeah, I think so too.

So it's House, Giddens, and Bill Walker for Robinson and Marcus Landry. Slight improvement to the team. Not enough to make a difference come playoff time, IMO.

The brief run as an elite team was fun. Just can't see this team advancing past the conference semis anytime soon.

I don’t even see it as an upgrade. Landry is the equivalent to Giddens or Walker…a practice player. I’m not a big fan of Nate at all. The Celts weren’t going to win a title unless they made a major move. Cleveland was the team that established itself as the front runner with the Jamison addition. Oh well.

Disappointing that Allen did not get moved for a piece that fits in for the future. I am so tired hearing about how the C's are a player away from being a title contender. They need three guys in their 30s to stay healthy (not likely) and a headcase to remove his head from his ass (very unlikely). Effing Wallace could have been one of the great players at least of his generation if he actually gave a [bleep] and kept his mouth shut. I hear reports from players and commentators that he is the biggest waste of talent of his generation.

The above comments are correct. . .a mediocre playoff team.
